Jonathan Newey

Jonathan Newey is a contemporary English artist who is considered to be one of the UK’s top coloured pencil artists. He specialises in drawings and paintings of wildlife and also enjoys painting architecture.

Look at a variety of Newey’s wildlife work and talk about patterns that can be seen. The children could attempt to draw the patterns in coloured pencil just like Jonathan Newey.

Pip McGarry

Pip McGarry is an internationally famous wildlife artist who specialises in painting the big cats and African animals.

Look at McGarry’s paintings and compare the markings of all the different big cats. Then look at some of the other animals who have patterned markings and discuss how they are similar and different to the big cats.

Anne Corless

Anne Corless is an artist who is interested in wildlife, portraits, animals and many other subjects. As well as comparing the patterns on the different wild animals that she paints you could look at some of her other work to compare the colours and patterns on the different types of animals.
